My Approach
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Psychodynamic is a talking therapy that helps you to understand why certain things are repeatedly difficult and distressing for you, thereby helping you to manage situations more effectively. The difficulties we have in the present have their roots in the past, and we can repeat these maladaptive patterns.
Psychodynamic is a form of counselling that enables you to understand the way you relate to others, to the world, and to yourself, so thereby learning a way to develop a more satisfying and sustainable way of living.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on the unconscious processes as they are manifested in our present behaviour. The focus of the work when using this modality is to enable an understanding and self-awareness of the influence of the past on the present behaviour.

Integrative Psychotherapy

It is not about making the client fit to the modality, but finding means for the way I work to fit well for the client, thereby Integrative Psychotherapy is where I bring both CBT and Psychodynamic together.

Central to my working is that the relationship is the key between myself and the client, in fostering a collaborative and trusting relationship, together we can embark on a journey of exploration, understanding and acceptance.
During the pandemic I undertook the BACP training to enable me to work safely to support clients whilst working online.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy looks at how we think about a situation and how this affects the way we react. In turn our actions can affect the way we think and feel. CBT is about teaching the client to become their own therapist, with tasks and homework being an integral part of this type of therapy.

CBT focuses on challenging and altering unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviours, thereby improving emotional balance.

CBT focuses on thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that are held in our cognitive processes, and how these processes relate to the way we behave, as a way of dealing with emotional issues.
